HYDAWAY’s Best Brunch Spots in the U.S.

There are so many reasons to get out of bed on the weekends. It could be to tackle a long to-do list of errands or take advantage of nice weather. Here at HYDAWAY, we think there’s no better way to start your day off than by eating – brunch, specifically. Here are some of our team’s favorite brunch spots in the United States.

The Buttered Tin

If you’re in Saint Paul, Minnesota, it would be a mistake to not have breakfast at The Buttered Tin. Known for its eats and sweets, this restaurant is up early preparing a wide array of delicious food. Enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee while contemplating the brunch menu. Loaded Hash Browns, Bananas Foster French Toast, and The Buttered Tin Hash are go-to choices that should not be overlooked. Our Marketing Coordinator, Anya, says that is the restaurant has the “cutest brunch atmosphere and creative takes on classic brunch faves.” She does warn that the wait can be pretty long (but worth it!), so make your brunch plans accordingly. The bonus? Feel good about stuffing your face by knowing that the restaurant donates food to those in need to help put an end to hunger in the local community.

 

Joan’s on Third

In sunny Los Angeles, make sure to stop by Joan’s on Third for a breakfast that will feed more than your stomach. Founded on the idea that simpler is better, the food selection is unparalleled. It’s a family business that celebrates its passion for food that brings people together. The shop’s design is as appetizing to the eye as its menu. Brunch recommendations include their Fried Egg Sandwich, Housemade Granola Parfait, and Corned Beef Hash. This selection comes from our Design Intern, Lia. She says that Joan’s on Third “is my favorite because it is a great restaurant with the best sandwiches, salads, and coffee. But it is also a market-style place that has really good, high-quality groceries and cheese.” Come for a meal and leave with your weekly groceries! These things make it one of the best brunch spots in the US.

 

McKay Cottage

Here in Hydaway’s hometown of Bend, Oregon, a local favorite is the McKay Cottage. A casual restaurant that is housed in a preserved 1916 historic craftsman bungalow. It is a former home of pioneers Clyde and Olive McKay and their son, Oregon State Senator, Gordon McKay. It offers numerous menu items and unbeatable customer service. Marketing Director Chris simply says that their “website says it all–voted best breakfast in Central Oregon from 2010-2017.” It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a delectable meal in an unassuming and friendly environment. The restaurant also has a daily selection of baked goods made from scratch each day. Believe us, it’s worth the wait if you can’t beat the rush!

 

Toast

Every time that our marketing team member Elena heads home for the holidays or summer vacation, stopping at Toast is a must. Located off one of the main roads in Birmingham, Michigan, seats tend to fill up if you don’t make a reservation in advance. The retro-vintage interior is one-of-a-kind and quite cozy. There’s even an open-air living room setting of the White House’s “Blue Room.” During the warmer months, you can soak up the sun’s rays on the outdoor patio. “It’s a fun spot to catch up with friends and family. I suggest the Buttermilk Pancakes with chocolate chips, but also have heard that the Chicken-N-Waffle Benny is a must-have.” Another aspect that makes the restaurant unique is that the menu is ever-changing. There’s a reason it has been voted as a “Neighborhood Gem” for two years in a row!

 

Comet Cafe

In Milwaukee, you’ll find Comet Cafe. It’s unassuming, but a cool, restaurant that serves up comfort food is done right. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It has just as many classic dishes as vegetarian and vegan plates. Some of the more creative twists for the adventurous eater include a Meatloaf Omelet and Jonii Cakes (a cornmeal pancake topped with collard greens, sunny egg, spicy red pepper coulis, and chopped bacon). Have a taste for a sandwich? You’re in luck! The brunch menu offers plenty of choices to satisfy your craving. Another marketing team member, Shayla, says “it’s a friendly and delicious place to eat. While I tend to prefer to sleep-in on my weekends, Comet is where I go to brunch when I’m back home.”
